I was inspired by my cousin, Erin, to start putting out fresh fruits/veggies out when my boys (mostly Josh) wants a snack. He asks all day for snacks and it annoys me. (she has been successful with her young family)
I do this for 3 reasons:
1- I want to teach my kids to make good food choices.
2- These boys of mine ask for "snacks" ALL the time.
3- To be honest, I could probably down an entire bag of Goldfish crackers totally on my own!!
So, I totally thought I would get major attitude from Josh. But I was pleasantly surprised that both boys were satisfied with the healthy food I provided. I did notice that after our snack of apples and PB this afternoon, which was my choice, Josh did sneak a string cheese a little later. If that empowers him, I am okay with that... which is why I have a Costco-sized bag of them!
I have observed (so far) that since snack time isn't so carb-filled and the boys' 1st choice, they don't need seconds or refills... And, I haven't heard whining about snacks and how "starving" they are.
I am hoping this will last.

That makes so much sense. We're trying to cut carbs also. Now I know where the term "empty carbs" come from. Good job Lindsey! (by the way, my favorite snack is an apple with peanut butter!)
