Clarify

So, to all my friends who visit my little blog, please help me figure something out. (stay with me...)

I have read, and understand, many studies and [some] books that explain that those with PCOS should really limit their sugar intake. This includes the sugary foods as well as anything made with white flour and even certain fruits/veggies with a higher glycemic index. I agree with these studies, as I have seen proof with my own reluctant-to-lose-weight body. (and I was able to naturally lower my blood sugar levels)

BUT, I have also heard much, recently, regarding sugar substitutes and their negative effects on a weight-loss plan... that the chemicals in diet-whatevers can make it near impossible for fat cells to shrink. (or something like that)

Here is my question:

Is it better to eat the regularly sweetened foods/drinks or diet/sugar-free stuff?

And, please don't tell me to just stay away from anything sweet, because I will tell you that you are NOT human to be able to abstain from such things!

HELP!!

I'm not the best at giving advise, but Diet Coke, Crystal Light, and sugar free jello are currently my new bffs. So far I've lost 4 pounds hanging around those 3... :)

In my completely uneducated opinion, I head towards the real stuff. Diet coke and most of the substitutes give me headaches. I do love Crystal Light though. It has always been my opinion that a person must find what foods work for her body, not what the experts say will work.

I don't know the answer, but it's a question I've asked myself, too!

Maybe your doc has some input? Or a nutritionist?

Ugh, I don't know either.

Personally, I don't really like the taste of aspartame so I choose real sugar. I think that using sugar or honey in moderation is ok. Just my opinion though.

I'm no doc, or even an expert in any way. But in my experience REAL is ALWAYS better. You feel better, your body likes it better and you will get the things you need/want by eating REAL food.

This goes for natural sugars and fats.

Sugar that comes from the grocery store in a 10 pound bag that you use for cookies cakes & brownies is not real.

Sugar that comes in honey, fruit & agave is real. (and expensive)

So there you go, that's what I think I know from my reading.

You'll have to let us know what you decide!

I have no idea. I try not to get too hung up on the latest health craze though. There are always studies that say eat this or don't eat that and then a year later we find out that we were wrong (Bran muffins for example). I like the post about finding out what works for your body. I personally love diet sweets.

I like to sweeten anything with chocolate chip cookie dough. Its naturally delicious in a preservative sort of way :)

Hey Linds...here's a link to an article I read a few months back. It shows two expert opinions and gives info on alternative sweeteners. http://www.mcvitamins.com/Health%20Opponents/cane-juice.htm It has some very good info! I definitely agree more with the second opinion in the article and find that eating my sugar with more fiber helps me metabolize it alot better. Good luck and keep kicking butt! :)
